Objectives

Individually or in groups, students are to apply their acquired knowledge of product and process development and search for new knowledge in order to independently complete an advanced assignment in the form of project management/follow-up and/or advanced problem-solving.

Learning outcomes

Upon completion of the course, students are expected to be able to do the following (in a scientific manner and according to good engineering practice):

  • take active part in a commercial or research-oriented project
  • take the responsibility of leading all or parts of a project within product and process development, e.g. as a project manager or in connection with a construction task
  • draw conclusions and offer recommendations for further work on the basis of the results obtained
  • document and argue for the process and result (in writing)
  • present and argue for the result (orally)

Course content

The problem that is to function as the basis for the project is to be found within an ongoing project at the "Centrum för produktrealisering".
Supervision by an assigned supervisor at the university and/or by representatives of an external client; lectures, individual studies of sources, and seminars. Students must make sure that regular contact is maintained between students and supervisors.

Specific requirements

This course is for program students within the subject area Product and Process Development who have received a passing grade on courses corresponding to at least 150 credits. Among these must be courses on the advanced level that are worth at least 15 credits. Places have to be applied for, and selection is based on the needs within each project. Also required are upper-secondary English and upper-secondary advanced-level Swedish.

Examination

Exercise (INL1), 1.5 credits, marks Pass (G)
Project (PRO1), The project is to be presented in the form of a technical report per group. There also has to be an oral presentation at a seminar at the university plus, possibly, another presentation for the client. The actual examination, i.e. the oral presentation, is to take place on certain scheduled days., 6 credits, marks Pass (G)

A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding disability study support, can request adaptions for the examination. It is the examiner who takes decisions on any adaptions, based on the certificate and other conditions.
