Objectives
The objective of the course is for students to obtain further in-depth knowledge of the relation between physical activity and health, with a focus on the prevention of lifestyle-related illness and adaption of physical activity in different illness conditions. Further, the objective of the course is for students to obtain knowledge of methods for individual and subgroup adaptions of physical activity, knowledge and methods to support the initiation and maintenance of behavioural change, and methods for evaluation of prescribed physical activity.
Learning outcomes
On completion of the course, students shall be able to:
1. relate different lifestyle-related illness conditions to physical activity and inactivity
2. explain health economic aspects of physical inactivity and sedentary behaviour
3. identify physiological and psychological effects of physical activity
4. appraise and motivate physical activity as a treatment measure in physiotherapy in prevention and in different illness conditions
5. apply and evaluate methods for assessment and measurement in physical activity at the individual, group and organisational level
6. explain, individually tailor and apply behavioural change techniques to support the motivation for, and the initiation and maintenance of, physical activity, from a biomedical and behavioural perspective
7. apply, analyse and evaluate different forms of physical exercise based on an individual's abilities
8. analyse and form a plan for the implementation of a physically active lifestyle, based on the support demands for different groups

The implication and implementation of Physical Activity on Prescription [Swedish: Fysisk Aktivitet på Recept, FaR]
Prevalence and prevention of disease and illness conditions related to physical activity and sedentary behaviour
Adaptions of physical activity to individuals and subgroups with different illness conditions, to different age groups and different ethnical backgrounds
Theories and models for health-promoting behavioural change
Behavioural change techniques to support the motivation, initiation and maintenance of physical activity and a non-sedentary lifestyle
Measurement and assessment instruments for physical activity/exercise
Health economic aspects of health-related lifestyle changes.
Specific requirements
A Bachelor's degree within one of the subject domains of Physiotherapy, Medical Science, Psychology, Caring Science with Specialisation in Nursing, Nursing Science, or the equivalent. In addition, Swedish B/Swedish 3 and English A/English 6 are required. In cases when the course is offered in English, the requirement for Swedish B/Swedish 3 is excluded.

A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding a disability has the opportunity to submit a request for supportive measures during written examinations or other forms of examination, in accordance with the Rules and Regulations for Examinations at First-cycle and Second-cycle Level at Mälardalen University (2020/1655). It is the examiner who takes decisions on any supportive measures, based on what kind of certificate is issued, and in that case which measures are to be applied.
Suspicions of attempting to deceive in examinations (cheating) are reported to the Vice-Chancellor, in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance, and are examined by the University’s Disciplinary Board. If the Disciplinary Board considers the student to be guilty of a disciplinary offence, the Board will take a decision on disciplinary action, which will be a warning or suspension.
