Objectives
The purpose of the course is for the student to basic knowledge of global health and sustainable development linked to equal opportunities. Further, the objective is for the student to acquire knowledge of relevant steering documents that have significance for global health and sustainable development.
Learning outcomes
On completion of the course, students shall be able to:
- account for central concepts and theories in global health and sustainable development
- explain equal opportunity from different perspectives such as gender, socio-economics and ethnicity, nationally and globally
- relate the occurrence of infectious and non-infectious diseases to social, economic and ecological dimensions from a national and global perspective
- account for different actors and arenas of relevance to global health and sustainable development
- account for global steering documents of significance to health and sustainable development
- reflect on current societal challenges for health from a national and global perspective
- discuss ethical approaches linked to sustainable development for health, from a global perspective

Specific requirements
45 ECTS credits with a major in public health sciences, caring sciences, medical sciences, physiotherapy, political sciences, psychology, sociology or an equivalent academic field. In addition, English course 6 or English level 2 or A TOEFL test result with a minimum score 575 and a TWE score of at least 4.5 (PBT) or 90 with a TWE score of at least 20 (iBT), or an IELTS test result with an overall band score of at least 6.5 and no band score below 5.5, or equivalent, are required.
Examination
INL1, Written assignment, 4.5 credits, grade Fail (U) or Pass (G).
SEM1, Seminar, 3 credits, grade Fail (U) or Pass (G).
For a Pass grade on the course as a whole, a G on INL1 and a G on SEM1 are required.
A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding disability study support, can request adaptions for the examination. It is the examiner who takes decisions on any adaptions, based on the certificate and other conditions.
