Objectives
The course aims to provide an introduction to pedagogical models for problem-based, problem-oriented and work-integrated learning with a focus on tools for project methodology, group work, leadership and the ability to collaborate. Furthermore, the course aims to introduce forms of collaboration, abilities for conflict management and negotiation as well as reflection on the engineer's responsibility and ethical standpoints. The course will also give the student an introduction to writing techniques, academic approach and university studies.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student should:
1. demonstrate overall knowledge and understanding of pedagogical models for problem-based, problem-oriented and work-integrated learning
2. demonstrate an approach to experience-based knowledge and practical handling in relation to theoretical knowledge
3. demonstrate knowledge of tools for project methodology, group work, leadership and conflict management
4. demonstrate knowledge about how to cooperate, plan and lead work
5. demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the engineer's responsibility and ethical stances
6. demonstrate knowledge of the meaning of collaboration and its impact on learning and mutual understanding
7. demonstrate knowledge of forms of collaboration and different approaches to practical collaboration with external parties
8. demonstrate basic skills in writing techniques and oral presentation
9. demonstrate a basic academic approach
Course content

Requirements

Examination
Seminar (SEM1), Seminar series, 3 credits, examines the learning outcomes 1, 2, and 5-7, marks Fail (U) or Pass (G)
Written assignment (INL1), 2 credits, examines the learning outcomes 3, 4, 8 and 9, marks Fail (U) or Pass (G)
A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding a disability has the opportunity to submit a request for supportive measures during written examinations or other forms of examination, in accordance with the Rules and Regulations for Examinations at First-cycle and Second-cycle Level at Mälardalen University (2020/1655). It is the examiner who takes decisions on any supportive measures, based on what kind of certificate is issued, and in that case which measures are to be applied.
Suspicions of attempting to deceive in examinations (cheating) are reported to the Vice-Chancellor, in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance, and are examined by the University’s Disciplinary Board. If the Disciplinary Board considers the student to be guilty of a disciplinary offence, the Board will take a decision on disciplinary action, which will be a warning or suspension.
