Literature lists
Course literature is preliminary up to 8 weeks before course start. Course literature can be valid over several semesters.
Objectives
The aim of the course is to give students the opportunity to acquire a deeper ability to read, analyze and discuss Anglophone World literature within theoretical, historical and societal contexts.
Learning outcomes
On completion of the course the student should be able to
1. analyze different types of Anglophone world literary texts systematically in context by making use of current theoretical perspectives
2. communicate with ease in advanced English in writing, seminar discussions and presentations
3. demonstrate familiarity with literary research within a research field and develop perspectives on current debates.
Course content
- Anglophone literary works written in different parts of the world
- Historical and cultural contexts of literary texts
- Theories within a literary research field
Specific requirements
60 credits of English för teachers in upper secondary school with progressive specialisation, of which at least 15 credits from English Literature 1 and 2, or the equivalent. In addition, 5.5 credits from Research methods for teachers in upper secondary school is required.
Examination
TEN1 Written examination, 2 credits, individual written examination concerning learning outcomes 1 and 2, grades Fail (U), Pass (G) or Pass with distinction (VG).
SEM1, Seminar 1.5 credits, active participation in seminar concerning learning outcome 2, grades Fail (U) or Pass (G).
INL1, Written assignment, 1.5 credits, written assignment concerning learning outcomes 1-3, grades Fail (U), Pass (G) or Pass with distinction (VG).
For Pass with distinction (VG) on the course as a whole, the student must have earned that grade for TEN1 and INL1.
A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding a disability has the opportunity to submit a request for supportive measures during written examinations or other forms of examination, in accordance with the Rules and Regulations for Examinations at First-cycle and Second-cycle Level at Mälardalen University (2020/1655). It is the examiner who takes decisions on any supportive measures, based on what kind of certificate is issued, and in that case which measures are to be applied.
Suspicions of attempting to deceive in examinations (cheating) are reported to the Vice-Chancellor, in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance, and are examined by the University’s Disciplinary Board. If the Disciplinary Board considers the student to be guilty of a disciplinary offence, the Board will take a decision on disciplinary action, which will be a warning or suspension.
