Course syllabus - Professional Roles within Interaction Design

Objectives

The course aims to give an in-depth understanding of how digitalization affects current and future professional roles, related to digital transformation, organizational/business development, evaluation and requirements.

Learning outcomes

After completing the course, the student shall be able to:
1. account for tasks, professional roles, organization and management within interaction design in relation to information design  
2. overall account for regulatory documents, laws and rules to relate to as an interaction designer  
3. mapping, analyzing and confering work processes in various organizations focusing on dialog, iteration och feedback, with a perspective of an information designer 
4. account for interaction designer collaboration and relations with other professional roles and professional categories 
5. mapping, visualizing and forming, in different modalities, alternatives to the studied work processes

Course content

-Understanding for the daily workflow and routines as an interaction designer focusing on processes, hierarchies och professional roles in various organizations.
- Laws, rules and regulatory documents concerning interaction and communication in various organizations, including companies, public administration, as well as non profit activities, that has an impact on daily work of an information designer.
- From information design principles will the student practice skills in forming and designing workflows and processes within the area of interaktion design.

Specific requirements

60 credits from completed courses in Information Design, of which at least 22.5 credits from specialization courses and at least 22.5 credits from general information design.

Examination

Prpject (PRO1), 3 credits, examines learning outcomes 1-4, marks Fail (U) or Pass (G)
Assignment 1 (INL1), 2 credits, examines learning outcomes 1-4, marks Fail (U) or Pass (G)
Assignment 2 (INL2), 2.5 credits, examines learning outcomes 5, marks Fail (U), Pass (G) or Pass with Distinction (VG)

A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding a disability has the opportunity to submit a request for supportive measures during written examinations or other forms of examination, in accordance with the Rules and Regulations for Examinations at First-cycle and Second-cycle Level at Mälardalen University (2020/1655). It is the examiner who takes decisions on any supportive measures, based on what kind of certificate is issued, and in that case which measures are to be applied.

Suspicions of attempting to deceive in examinations (cheating) are reported to the Vice-Chancellor, in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance, and are examined by the University’s Disciplinary Board. If the Disciplinary Board considers the student to be guilty of a disciplinary offence, the Board will take a decision on disciplinary action, which will be a warning or suspension.
