Objectives
The objective of the course is to provide the participant with opportunity to develop and strengthen their leadership for pedagogical development and to enhance understanding of the impact the leader has on quality in education.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the participant is expected to be able to
1. discuss the meaning of and prerequisites for leadership, and the impact it has on pedagogical development
2. independently and jointly with others, analyse and problematise the pedagogical practice within their own department and/or at the university
3. promote pedagogical development
4. based on the scholarship of teaching and learning, promote the development of teachers
Course content
- Leadership for pedagogical development, based on the questions what, why and how
- Scholarship of teaching and learning
- Various perspectives on leadership within higher education
- Planning and implementation of pedagogical development
Specific requirements
Employment intended for teaching or for direct support of teaching at Mälardalen University. In addition, commitment for supporting pedagogical development is required.
Examination
SEM1, Seminar, 3 credits, active participation in seminars concerning learning outcomes 1, 2 and 4, grades Fail (U) or Pass (G).
VIL1, Activity-integrated learning, 1.5 credits, establishment of action plan and conducting discussions for pedagogical development concerning learning outcomes 3 and 4, grades Fail (U) or Pass (G).
A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding a disability has the opportunity to submit a request for supportive measures during written examinations or other forms of examination, in accordance with the Rules and Regulations for Examinations at First-cycle and Second-cycle Level at Mälardalen University (2020/1655). It is the examiner who takes decisions on any supportive measures, based on what kind of certificate is issued, and in that case which measures are to be applied.
Suspicions of attempting to deceive in examinations (cheating) are reported to the Vice-Chancellor, in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance, and are examined by the University’s Disciplinary Board. If the Disciplinary Board considers the student to be guilty of a disciplinary offence, the Board will take a decision on disciplinary action, which will be a warning or suspension.
