Objectives
The purpose of the course is to cover basic theories in organization and management studies, and in doing so, give students the means to analyze theoretical and practical challenges in organizations. Moreover, the course aims to teach students classical perspectives for them to see their relevance in contemporary research of modern organizational phenomena.
Learning outcomes
After the course the student should be able to:
1. Describe and discuss the foundational concepts and theoretical perspectives in organization and management studies.
2. Understand the practical implications of using specific concepts and theories to analyse organizational phenomena
3. Reflect upon the relevance of classic views on organisations to study contemporary phenomena
4. Assess the reliability of different sources of knowledge
5. Use databases to search for relevant scholarly material.
Course content
The course Organization and Management introduce students to the key concepts and main perspectives to study organizational processes and practices. It is based on individual and group assignments to allow students to learn both independently and collaboratively.

A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding a disability has the opportunity to submit a request for supportive measures during written examinations or other forms of examination, in accordance with the Rules and Regulations for Examinations at First-cycle and Second-cycle Level at Mälardalen University (2020/1655). It is the examiner who takes decisions on any supportive measures, based on what kind of certificate is issued, and in that case which measures are to be applied.
Suspicions of attempting to deceive in examinations (cheating) are reported to the Vice-Chancellor, in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance, and are examined by the University’s Disciplinary Board. If the Disciplinary Board considers the student to be guilty of a disciplinary offence, the Board will take a decision on disciplinary action, which will be a warning or suspension.
