Objectives
The aim of the course is to increase students' knowledge, understanding and ability to lead improvement projects effectively with high quality. The quality area is placed in a larger context and is treated in relation to leadership, organization, sustainability, health and learning.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student should be able to:
1. use effective methods for the human dimension in quality management projects.
2. describe and analyze different theories in leadership and its impact on the implementation of high quality improvement projects
3. describe and analyze how structure, working methods and culture in an organization affect quality management
4. perform and relate a practical work to theories about leading high quality improvement projects
5. individually and in groups carry out and report on project and seminar assignments both in writing and orally and to give critical and constructive feedback on such reporting
Course content
The course provides knowledge of quality management, where leadership, organization, communication, and methodology / methods are important parts to be able to lead improvement work with high quality.
Specific requirements
Completed courses of 75 credits in Product and Process Development of which 15 credits at advanced level. In addition, Swedish B/Swedish 3 and English A/English 6 are required. For courses given entirely in English exemption is made from the requirement in Swedish B/Swedish 3.
Examination
Seminar (SEM1), literature assignment individually and in groups presented through a seminar as well as written group assignment, 2.5 credits, examines learning outcomes 2 -3, marks Fail (U) or Pass (G)
Project (PRO1), a project assignment that is presented with a report and demonstration of the project, 5 credits, examines learning outcomes 1-5, marks Fail (U) or Pass (G)
A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding a disability has the opportunity to submit a request for supportive measures during written examinations or other forms of examination, in accordance with the Rules and Regulations for Examinations at First-cycle and Second-cycle Level at Mälardalen University (2020/1655). It is the examiner who takes decisions on any supportive measures, based on what kind of certificate is issued, and in that case which measures are to be applied.
Suspicions of attempting to deceive in examinations (cheating) are reported to the Vice-Chancellor, in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance, and are examined by the University’s Disciplinary Board. If the Disciplinary Board considers the student to be guilty of a disciplinary offence, the Board will take a decision on disciplinary action, which will be a warning or suspension.
