Objectives
The course intends to give the student basic knowledge of European Community law, the rules regarding Business Contracts in International Markets and Commercial law with focus on Competition law and Intellectual property law.
Learning outcomes
After the course the student shall be able to:
1. Identify different major legal systems and the effect on a specific business deal
2. Evaluate legal texts and be able to find relevant text to a specific legal question..
3. Find legal text in EU Law that is relevant to a specific business transaction within EU.
4. Apply basic personal tax laws when working in different countries.
5. Identify different principles in contract law in different countries and apply this knowledge in a business contract
6. Apply basic rules in Competition law
7. Apply basic rules regarding Intellectual property law
Course content
The course starts with an introduction to different legal systems and basic introduction to European Union Law. After the introduction, we continue with some IT-law regarding Privacy protection and Criminal law followed by Principals of Commercial contract law. Followed by tax law for individuals working in different countries and after that Intellectual property law and Competition law.

The teaching consists of lectures and seminars.

A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding a disability has the opportunity to submit a request for supportive measures during written examinations or other forms of examination, in accordance with the Rules and Regulations for Examinations at First-cycle and Second-cycle Level at Mälardalen University (2020/1655). It is the examiner who takes decisions on any supportive measures, based on what kind of certificate is issued, and in that case which measures are to be applied.
Suspicions of attempting to deceive in examinations (cheating) are reported to the Vice-Chancellor, in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance, and are examined by the University’s Disciplinary Board. If the Disciplinary Board considers the student to be guilty of a disciplinary offence, the Board will take a decision on disciplinary action, which will be a warning or suspension.

The course overlaps 15 credits with EHA012 Introduction to Commercial Law. The course does not provide access to courses in commercial law at level G1F or higher. Also overlap with HAA103.
