Objectives
The goal with the course is to design and build a complete robotic systems. The robot should have the following properties:
- contain sensors for recognizing the surrounding world
- be completely autonomous
- be able to act, i.e. have actuators
- contain some artificial intelligence (AI)
Learning outcomes
After completing the course the student shall be able to:
1. describe how a fully working robot is designed,
2. relate research that is close to that subsystem that the student has taken part in designing,
3. have an understanding of the scientific methods that are relevant within the field,
4. have full understanding of group dynamics in a project where the number of co-workers are more than ten people.
Depending on the main focus for the individual student, it is required that solutions are to be found in relevant research groups and in the scientific literature.
Course content
The course starts with a requirement specification and results from previous years project. Since the project in itself is so large, it is natural that
the tasks are divided into several sub projects, and they are adapted to the actual participating students. Each sub project has very good knowledge
about its problems and solutions, and all are informed about other sub projects progress and possible obstacles.
Specific requirements
Signal Processing 7.5 credits, Complex Electronic Systems 7.5 credits, Applied Artificial Intelligence 15 credits, and Intelligent Systems 7.5 credits. And also completed courses of 150 credits in the technical and/or natural sciences areas where at least 15 credits in courses at advanced level in Electronics. In addition Swedish course B/Swedish course 3 and English course A/English course 6 are required. For courses given entirely in English exemption is made from the requirement in Swedish course B/Swedish course 3.
Examination
Project (PRO1), 7,5 credits, examines the learning outcomes 2,3, and 4, marks Fail (U) or Pass (G)
Project (PRO2), 7,5 credits, examines the learning outcomes 2,3, and 4, marks Fail (U) or Pass (G).
Project (PRO3), 7,5 credits, examines the learning outcomes 2,3, and 4, marks Fail (U) or Pass (G).
Project (PRO4), 7,5 credits, examines the learning outcomes 1, 2, 3, and 4, marks Fail (U) or Pass (G).
A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding a disability has the opportunity to submit a request for supportive measures during written examinations or other forms of examination, in accordance with the Rules and Regulations for Examinations at First-cycle and Second-cycle Level at Mälardalen University (2020/1655). It is the examiner who takes decisions on any supportive measures, based on what kind of certificate is issued, and in that case which measures are to be applied.
Suspicions of attempting to deceive in examinations (cheating) are reported to the Vice-Chancellor, in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance, and are examined by the University’s Disciplinary Board. If the Disciplinary Board considers the student to be guilty of a disciplinary offence, the Board will take a decision on disciplinary action, which will be a warning or suspension.
