Objectives
The aim of the course is to, based on science and practice, give students knowledge about the difference between product and service logic. Furthermore, the course provides knowledge of theory and practice that supports service innovation. The course also provides basic skills in user-involving methods applicable in service development.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student shall be able to:
1. describe and explain the differences between a product-oriented way of thinking compared to a service-oriented way of thinking and what consequences these different ways of thinking have for the view of value creation and innovation
2. based on scientific, ethical and societal aspects; identify, problematize and discuss value creation in different contexts
3. carry out user-involved development with appropriate qualitative research methods and based on applicable ethical principles
4. visualize various service development proposals in dialogue with users
5. report a completed part of a user-involved service development process and discuss lessons and ethical considerations

Methods for co-creation and analysis of qualitative data material.

Examination
Assignment (INL1), 2 credits, examines learning outcomes 1 - 2, marks Fail (U), Pass (G) or Pass with Distinction (VG)
Field study report (FSR1), 3 credits, examines learning outcomes 3 - 5, marks Fail (U), Pass (G) or Pass with Distinction (VG)
A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding a disability has the opportunity to submit a request for supportive measures during written examinations or other forms of examination, in accordance with the Rules and Regulations for Examinations at First-cycle and Second-cycle Level at Mälardalen University (2020/1655). It is the examiner who takes decisions on any supportive measures, based on what kind of certificate is issued, and in that case which measures are to be applied.
Suspicions of attempting to deceive in examinations (cheating) are reported to the Vice-Chancellor, in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance, and are examined by the University’s Disciplinary Board. If the Disciplinary Board considers the student to be guilty of a disciplinary offence, the Board will take a decision on disciplinary action, which will be a warning or suspension.
