Objectives
The purpose of the course is to give the participants the opportunity to acquire basic skills in mainly written communication in English, with a particular focus on communication in higher education and/or research.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, participants are expected to be able to:
- provide evidence of skills in practical grammar, vocabulary, text structure and other relevant aspects of written communication in English;
- provide evidence of skills in presenting subjects related to the participants´ own work assignments in reasonably formal English.
Course content
- casual as well as more formal written communication in English, with a focus on English usage.

Employment at Mälardalen University.
Examination
SEM1, seminar, 1 credit, active participation in the timetabled seminars, concerning learning outcomes 1 and 2, grades Fail (U) or Pass (G).
INL1, written assignments, 1 credit, concerning learning outcomes 1 and 2, grades Fail (U) or Pass (G).
A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding disability study support, can request adaptions for the examination. It is the examiner who takes decisions on any adaptions, based on the certificate and other conditions.
