Objectives
The objective of the course is to provide the participant with the opportunity to acquire formal competence, as well as to develop the participant's knowledge about supervision in third-cycle studies.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, the participant are expected to be able to show:
1. knowledge about overall structure and supervision towards the goals of the third-cycle studies
2. knowledge about legal and ethical considerations
3. knowledge about how to plan studies and follow work processes in the third-cycle programmes at MDU
4. knowledge about supervision in international and co-producing environments
5. knowledge and understanding of individuals and situations regarding the supervisory relationship
6. knowledge about communication as support for learning

- Conflict management and communication
- Rules and regulations
- Ethical rules, guidelines and considerations
- Planning and assessing third-cycle studies and progression using the individual study plan and other tools
- Supervision in international and co-producing environments
- The supervisory relationship

Examination
OBN1, Compulsory attendance, 1 credit, compulsory attendance at all sessions concerning learning outcomes 1-6, grades Fail (U) or Pass (G).
INL1, Written assignment, 3.5 credits, individual written assignment concerning learning outcomes 1-6, grades Fail (U) or Pass (G).
Absence is made up for by attending the corresponding session the next time the course is held.
A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding disability study support, can request adaptions for the examination. It is the examiner who takes decisions on any adaptions, based on the certificate and other conditions.
