Objectives
The course aims to give students the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of English and English language didactics, as well as to develop their creative and communicative skills, including basic academic communication. Students will also be given the opportunity to acquire knowledge of English-language children's literature, literature didactics, aesthetic learning processes, intercultural ability, as well as assessment in language learning contexts.
Learning outcomes
On completion of the course, students are expected to be able to:
1. communicate freely and correctly in English, while adapting to the situation and recipients
2. apply techniques and strategies for academic communication
3. develop and apply strategies to create a pleasurable and interactive language environment in the classroom
4. identify teaching strategies for sustainable development
5. make conscious choices of children's literature and other cultural expressions based on didactic theories of language teaching for younger learners
6. use children's literature, other cultural expressions and diverse types of media to support pupils' language development, as well as develop their creativity and intercultural ability
7. plan and evaluate comprehensive and coherent learning activities in English with support in current policy documents and current subject didactic research
8. identify and evaluate different ways of assessing and documenting pupils' learning and development in English

60 credits from the primary education (years 4-6) teacher programme, which must include the following:

- 5 credits Social Relations, Conflict Management and Leadership for Teachers in Compulsory School, Years 4-6
- 7 credits English for Teachers in Compulsory School, Years 4-6
- 10 credits Swedish for Teachers in Compulsory School, Years 4-6
- 10 credits Mathematics for Teachers in Compulsory School, Years 4-6
Examination

To receive the grade Pass with distinction (VG) on the course as a whole, the student needs to have earned that grade on at least 10 credits.
A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding a disability has the opportunity to submit a request for supportive measures during written examinations or other forms of examination, in accordance with the Rules and Regulations for Examinations at First-cycle and Second-cycle Level at Mälardalen University (2020/1655). It is the examiner who takes decisions on any supportive measures, based on what kind of certificate is issued, and in that case which measures are to be applied.
Suspicions of attempting to deceive in examinations (cheating) are reported to the Vice-Chancellor, in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance, and are examined by the University’s Disciplinary Board. If the Disciplinary Board considers the student to be guilty of a disciplinary offence, the Board will take a decision on disciplinary action, which will be a warning or suspension.
