Objectives
The aim of the course is to provide knowledge of the concept of "Industrial Excellence" by linking manufacturing strategy to the development of the production system. The objective in the course is for students to manage an improvement project of a real industrial production process, and use simulation to suggest improvements.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course the student shall be able to:
1. individually search and select scientific publications through an appropriate and systematic strategy and to critically examine and evaluate these publications
2. analyze literature and utilize theoretical findings for improving a project of a real industrial production process
3. design, develop and deploy a simulation model in an improvement project of a real industrial production process
4. present an improvement project of a real industrial production process to a manufacturing company
5. plan, manage, and implement an improvement project of a real industrial production process to a manufacturing company
Course content
- Development of production systems
- Modelling and simulation as tools with focus on discrete event controlled simulation.
- Performing of applied improvement studies of a section of an industrial production system within manufacturing industry, which are to be analyzed through modeling and simulation
Specific requirements
Completed courses of at least 30 credits, on advanced level, in Product and Process Development, including 7.5 credits of the course Production System Development.
In addition, Swedish B/Swedish 3 and English A/English 6 are required. For courses given in entirely in English exemption is made from the requirement in Swedish B/Swedish 3.
