Objectives
The purpose of the course is to develop the participant's understanding of students' learning.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the participant shall demonstrate the ability to:
1. discuss and problematise students' learning in their own subject area, on the basis of research in educational sciences of relevance for teaching in higher education,
2. interact with students in an inclusive manner,
3. reflect on their professional approach to academic teaching and their relationship with the students.
Course content
- Students' perspective on habits that influence their studies
- Preventative work against plagiarism and cheating
- Conditions and exercises for student active learning
Specific requirements
A teaching position at Mälardalen University.
Examination
SEM1, seminar, 1.0 credits, active participation in seminars concerning learning outcomes 1-3, grade Fail (U) or Pass (G).
INL1, written assignment, 1.5 credits, written assignment concerning learning outcomes 1-3, grade Fail (U) or Pass (G).
For Pass (G) on the course as a whole, the participant must have earned that grade for SEM1 and INL1.
A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding a disability has the opportunity to submit a request for supportive measures during written examinations or other forms of examination, in accordance with the Rules and Regulations for Examinations at First-cycle and Second-cycle Level at Mälardalen University (2020/1655). It is the examiner who takes decisions on any supportive measures, based on what kind of certificate is issued, and in that case which measures are to be applied.
Suspicions of attempting to deceive in examinations (cheating) are reported to the Vice-Chancellor, in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance, and are examined by the University’s Disciplinary Board. If the Disciplinary Board considers the student to be guilty of a disciplinary offence, the Board will take a decision on disciplinary action, which will be a warning or suspension.

Course participant admitted to PEA920 who has not completed PEA920 can do so according to the old syllabus until the autumn of 2024. New examinations are organized as needed.
Credits for SEM1 or INL1 in PEA920 cannot be transfered to this course.
The learning outcomes 1 and 3 in this course overlap the learning outcomes in PEA920. Learning outcome 2 is new.
