Literature lists

Objectives

The purpose of the course is to develop the participant's understanding of the mandates and responsibilities of higher education institutions.

Learning outcomes

After completing the course, the participant shall demonstrate the ability to:

1, apply relevant national and local rules and regulations, and to discuss society's objectives for higher education and the academic teaching role in terms of the participant's own practice and students' active participation in higher education,
2. reflect on their professional approach to the fundamental values of higher education, such as democracy, internationalisation, gender equality, equal opportunities and sustainability,
3. interact with students in an inclusive manner and demonstrate knowledge of rules and regulations regarding students with disabilities and of available student support,
4. problematise and discuss research-based teaching.

Specific requirements

A teaching position at Mälardalen University.

Examination

SEM1, seminar, 2.0 credits, seminars concerning learning outcomes 1-4, grade Fail (U) or Pass (G).
INL1, written assignment, 0.5 credits, reflection texts concerning learning outcomes 1-4, grade Fail (U) or Pass (G).

For Pass (G) on the course as a whole, the student must have earned that grade for SEM1 and INL1.

A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding a disability has the opportunity to submit a request for supportive measures during written examinations or other forms of examination, in accordance with the Rules and Regulations for Examinations at First-cycle and Second-cycle Level at Mälardalen University (2020/1655). It is the examiner who takes decisions on any supportive measures, based on what kind of certificate is issued, and in that case which measures are to be applied.

Suspicions of attempting to deceive in examinations (cheating) are reported to the Vice-Chancellor, in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance, and are examined by the University’s Disciplinary Board. If the Disciplinary Board considers the student to be guilty of a disciplinary offence, the Board will take a decision on disciplinary action, which will be a warning or suspension.
