Objectives
The internship course will provide insight into the various possibilities and prerequisites for the practical application of the knowledge gained within the engineering program. The tasks in the internship should be sufficiently complex that the student is able to translate his theoretical knowledge to practice. Account must be taken of the relevance of the tasks to the engineering education. The course will also provide an overview of the requirements and skills of the profession and which are not of a strict technical nature, but often directly linked to the engineering practitioner. During the internship, the student must work under the conditions and practice of the current workplace and have defined tasks. During the internship, the student will also develop hers or his ability to work as an employee and/or in a group.
Learning outcomes
After completion of the course the student should be able to or have:
1. Show understanding of the various possibilities and prerequisites for the practical application of the knowledge gained within the engineering program.
2. Describe at an overarching level the demands and skills that are put in the profession and which are not strictly technical in nature, often directly linked to the professional engineer.
3. Explain the importance of obtaining and selecting relevant information regarding technical and engineering issues.
4. Demonstrate understanding of the multifaceted role represented by today's professional civil and college engineers.
Course content
Through the internship course, MDH, in cooperation with industry and society, gives you the opportunity to get to know your future career role and the conditions in a workplace as a student. This happens through eight weeks of continuous work at the company.

Examination
Seminar (SEM1) 1 credit, grade Passed (G) (refers to learning outcomes: 1-3)
Internship (PRA1), 7 credits, grade Passed (G) (refers to learning outcomes: 3-4)
Assignment (INL1), 7 credits, grade 3, 4 or 5 (refers to learning outcomes: 1-4)
A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding a disability has the opportunity to submit a request for supportive measures during written examinations or other forms of examination, in accordance with the Rules and Regulations for Examinations at First-cycle and Second-cycle Level at Mälardalen University (2020/1655). It is the examiner who takes decisions on any supportive measures, based on what kind of certificate is issued, and in that case which measures are to be applied.
Suspicions of attempting to deceive in examinations (cheating) are reported to the Vice-Chancellor, in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance, and are examined by the University’s Disciplinary Board. If the Disciplinary Board considers the student to be guilty of a disciplinary offence, the Board will take a decision on disciplinary action, which will be a warning or suspension.
