Objectives
The purpose of the course Organization and Leadership is to provide knowledge and understanding regarding practical problem solving as well theoretical analysis - drawing upon concepts such as structure, leadership, strategy, culture, environment and business ethics - in the field of organization and management studies. The course focus on organizations in diverse social and economic settings.
Learning outcomes
After the course the student should be able to:
1. describe and discuss central/basic concepts and models in organization theory.
2. understand the practical as well as theoretical relevance (and inter-relationships) of concepts such as structure, leadership, strategy, culture, environment and business ethics.
3. reflect upon change, sustainable development and implications of organizational learning.
4. valuate information from different type of sources
5. use databases in order to identify relevant research material
Course content
The course Organization and Leadership comprise of basic concepts, models and theories in the contemporary field of organization and business studies. It provides perspectives and tools for practical application as well as theoretical analysis. The course is based on flexible learning through individual and group assignments.

A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding a disability has the opportunity to submit a request for supportive measures during written examinations or other forms of examination, in accordance with the Rules and Regulations for Examinations at First-cycle and Second-cycle Level at Mälardalen University (2020/1655). It is the examiner who takes decisions on any supportive measures, based on what kind of certificate is issued, and in that case which measures are to be applied.
Suspicions of attempting to deceive in examinations (cheating) are reported to the Vice-Chancellor, in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance, and are examined by the University’s Disciplinary Board. If the Disciplinary Board considers the student to be guilty of a disciplinary offence, the Board will take a decision on disciplinary action, which will be a warning or suspension.
