Objectives
The aim of the course is to give a broader understanding of the possibilities and limitations of the product development process related to industrial applications.
The course should also increase the students' capability to solve complex technical or theoretical product development tasks with limited resources and increase the ability to present, orally and in written, and argument for a selected solution.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student shall be able to:
1. show knowledge of the possibilities and limitations of the product development process
2. analyse empirically and/or theoretically material necessary to solve a complex technical or theoretical product development task
3. solve a complex technical or theoretical product development task with limited resources
4. apply relevant models, methods and tools for product implementation and problem solving
5. individually or in group perform, document and present a product development project and argue, orally and in written, for the selected solution
Course content
The course comprises a project work where the student, individually or in a smaller group, performs a complex technical or theoretical product development task.
Specific requirements
The courses Product Development 1 7.5 credits, Product Development 2 7.5 credits and Product and Process Development 15 credits, or corresponing. In addition, Swedish course B/Swedish course 3 and English course A/English course 6 are required. For courses given entirely in English exemption is made from the requirement in Swedish course B/Swedish course 3.
Examination
Seminar (SEM1), 1 credit, examination via reflections on literature and active participation in seminars, examines the learning outcome 1, marks Fail (U) or Pass (G).
Project (PRO1), 6.5 credits, examination via oral and written presentation of a project report and by opposition of another student report, examines the learning outcomes 2 - 5, marks Fail (U), 3, 4 or 5
Final mark is the same as for PRO and requires the mark G for SEM.
A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding a disability has the opportunity to submit a request for supportive measures during written examinations or other forms of examination, in accordance with the Rules and Regulations for Examinations at First-cycle and Second-cycle Level at Mälardalen University (2020/1655). It is the examiner who takes decisions on any supportive measures, based on what kind of certificate is issued, and in that case which measures are to be applied.
Suspicions of attempting to deceive in examinations (cheating) are reported to the Vice-Chancellor, in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance, and are examined by the University’s Disciplinary Board. If the Disciplinary Board considers the student to be guilty of a disciplinary offence, the Board will take a decision on disciplinary action, which will be a warning or suspension.
