Objectives
The aim of the course is for the student to acquire increased knowledge of equal preconditions for health linked to health determinants. Further the aim of the course is for the student to gain understanding of the effects of health and sustainable development from a global perspective.
Learning outcomes
On completion of the course, students are expected to be able to:
1 describe the preconditions for equality in health in relation to health determinants
2 explain global policy documents of importance to health
3 identify effects of health related to globalisation
4 explain equality in health related to sustainable development from a global perspective
5 explain the relationship between health and ill-health in relation to socioeconomic factors and gender.
6 use relevant sources to search for and find information on global conditions regarding health from an equality perspective

Tuition
Teaching and learning take place in the form of lectures, workshops, literature studies and seminars. The course platform is used both as a course library and for communication.
The purpose of these teaching methods is for the students to develop their ability to practice active searches for knowledge, and their skills in critical reviewing and discussion.
Specific requirements
45 credits in Public Health Sciences, including Introduction to Public Health Sciences,15 credits, or the equivalent.
Examination
INL1 Written assignment, 4.5 credits, Individual written assignment relating to learning objectives 1, 4-6. Grades Fail (U), Pass (G) or Pass with distinction (VG).
SEM1 Seminar, 3 credits, Individual oral and written assignment relating to learning objectives 2-4. Grades Fail (U) or Pass (G)
For a VG on the course as a whole, a VG on INL1 and a G on SEM1 is required.

A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding a disability has the opportunity to submit a request for supportive measures during written examinations or other forms of examination, in accordance with the Rules and Regulations for Examinations at First-cycle and Second-cycle Level at Mälardalen University (2020/1655). It is the examiner who takes decisions on any supportive measures, based on what kind of certificate is issued, and in that case which measures are to be applied.
Suspicions of attempting to deceive in examinations (cheating) are reported to the Vice-Chancellor, in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance, and are examined by the University’s Disciplinary Board. If the Disciplinary Board considers the student to be guilty of a disciplinary offence, the Board will take a decision on disciplinary action, which will be a warning or suspension.
