Objectives
The purpose of this course is to give the student the knowledge and skills needed to design and implement e-commerce and digital business strategies. The student will have an understanding of concepts and theories related to the IT-supported organization. After the course, the student shall have the knowledge and skills needed to design and implement an e-business and e-commerce strategy. The student shall also know how to manage IT-related projects that support companies to utilize state-of-the-art information technology (IT) to transform their organization and their marketing. The student will also know how to communicate technical and marketing knowledge with non-specialists.
Learning outcomes
After completion of the course, the student shall be able to:
1. describe what capabilities the organization needs when getting digitalized.
2. describe the fundamental functionalities of current IT trends and relate them to the users and use areas.
3. describe critical success factors behind companies and organizations adaption or migration to IT-supported processes.
4. have the skills to design and implement an e-business strategy.
5. have the skills to design and implement an e-commerce strategy (including using social media for customer collaboration).
6. relate different digital (e.g., mobiles, gadgets) and online (e.g., social media, gaming) solutions to marketing possibilities and limitations.
7. have the skills to design and carry out IT and marketing projects; which include collaborating with others (non-specialists), work scheduling and project delivery in suitable forms.
8. report technical and business strategies to non-specialists, both following academic writing style and structure, as well as in the form of popular science and management writing.
Course content
The course is introduced with lectures that summarize the course literature and outlines the course assignments. This is followed by seminars and laboratories where the students carry out their projects in groups. The course does also have individual activities that are carried out online. The course results in two related student group presentations as well as student peer reviews.

Specific requirements
30 credits in Business Administration whereof 22,5 credits should be finished when the course starts. In addition English course B/English course 6 is required.
Examination
Examination (TEN1), 1,5 credits, grade Pass (G), (learning outcomes 1-6)
Project e-business (PRO1), 3 credits, grades Pass (G) or Pass with distinction (VG), (learning outcomes 1-4, 6-8)
Project e-commerce (PRO2), 3 credits, grades Pass (G) or Pass with distinction (VG), (learning outcomes 1-3, 5-8)
A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding a disability has the opportunity to submit a request for supportive measures during written examinations or other forms of examination, in accordance with the Rules and Regulations for Examinations at First-cycle and Second-cycle Level at Mälardalen University (2020/1655). It is the examiner who takes decisions on any supportive measures, based on what kind of certificate is issued, and in that case which measures are to be applied.
Suspicions of attempting to deceive in examinations (cheating) are reported to the Vice-Chancellor, in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance, and are examined by the University’s Disciplinary Board. If the Disciplinary Board considers the student to be guilty of a disciplinary offence, the Board will take a decision on disciplinary action, which will be a warning or suspension.
