Course syllabus - Chamber Opera 2

Objectives

The aim of the course is to further develop and strengthen the foundation for the student’s vocal, scenic and textual skills and knowledge in Chamber Opera.

Learning outcomes

After having completed the course the student is expected to be able to
1. on a relevant level musically and technically use and perform with the own instrument in chamber opera
2. receive and use musical, technical and scenic instructions in chamber opera
3. show a developed understanding of the role of text in musical interpretation
4. use scenic tools to improve and deepen the own individual artistic expression and musicianship in chamber opera constellations
5. orally account for chamber opera as an art form and a form of expression
6. in a deliberate way show knowledge in more complicated types of theoretical terms in music theory, and vocally perform more complicated melodies and rhytms with or without preparation

Tuition

The education is based on individual lessons, group lessons, lectures and seminars.

Specific requirements

Chamber Opera 1, 30 ECTS, or equivalent.
 

Examination

SEM1, Main Instrument, 11 credits, performance in individual main instrument lessons concerning learning outcome 1-4 , grades Fail (U) or Pass (G).
SEM2, Master Class, 1 credit, performance in master class concerning learning outcomes 1-4, grades Fail (U) or Pass (G).
SEM3, Collaborative Work, 5,5 credits, collaborative work concerning learning outcome 1-4, grades Fail (U) or Pass (G).
SEM4, Scenic Performance, 4 credits, classes in scenic performance concerning learning outcomes 1-4, grades Fail (U) or Pass (G).
SEM5, History of Chamber Opera, 0,5 credits, oral examination of the history of chamber opera concerning learning outcome 5, grades Fail (U) or Pass (G).
SEM6, Music Theory and Auditive Training, 0,5 credits, classes in music theory and auditive training concerning learning outcome 6, grades Fail (U) or Pass (G).
PRO1, Public Performance, 7,5 credits, final public performance concerning learning outcomes 1-4, grades Fail (U) or Pass (G).

A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding a disability has the opportunity to submit a request for supportive measures during written examinations or other forms of examination, in accordance with the Rules and Regulations for Examinations at First-cycle and Second-cycle Level at Mälardalen University (2020/1655). It is the examiner who takes decisions on any supportive measures, based on what kind of certificate is issued, and in that case which measures are to be applied.

Suspicions of attempting to deceive in examinations (cheating) are reported to the Vice-Chancellor, in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance, and are examined by the University’s Disciplinary Board. If the Disciplinary Board considers the student to be guilty of a disciplinary offence, the Board will take a decision on disciplinary action, which will be a warning or suspension.
