Objectives
The aim of the course is that the student will acquire specialised knowledge of physical exercise as a scientific field and of individualised physical exercise. Further, the aim of the course is that the student will critically process, evaluate and compare the current evidence existing within the field of individualised physical exercise.
Learning outcomes
On completion of the course the student shall be able to:
1 explain and distinguish between physiological, psychological and social effects of physical exercise
2 evaluate and apply methods of assessment, measurement and evaluation of physical exercise
3 adapt and reflect on individualised training doses based on behavioural aspects
4 apply and evaluate fitness and strength training on the basis of individual ability
5 give examples of and argue for different groups’ needs of support for the implementation of a physically active lifestyle
6 summarise and evaluate the health economics and consequences of physical inactivity
7 analyse, discuss and summarise the current position of evidence in individualised physical exercise
8 explain and justify behavioural change strategies in individualised physical exercise

Plan, assess, dose, evaluate physical exercise and prescribe physical activity on prescription
Measurement and evaluation instruments for physical exercise
Adapted physical exercise at individual, group and societal levels
Strategies behavioural change in individualised physical exercise

Teaching consists of lectures, group discussions, laboratory studies, seminars and individual work.
Specific requirements
At least 120 HE credits in the Physiotherapy programme, including the course Physiotherapy: Methods for Treatment and Evaluation - Clinical Studies, 15 HE credits
Examination
INL1, Written assignment, 4.5 credits. Written and individual assignment regarding learning objectives 1-4, 7-8. Marks Fail (U), Pass (G), or Pass with Credit (VG).
SEM1, Seminar, 3 credits, regarding learning objectives 1-8. Marks Fail (U) or Pass (G).
To receive a Pass with Credit on the course, a VG on INL1 and a G on SEM1 is required. For further details, please refer to the Study Guide.
A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding a disability has the opportunity to submit a request for supportive measures during written examinations or other forms of examination, in accordance with the Rules and Regulations for Examinations at First-cycle and Second-cycle Level at Mälardalen University (2020/1655). It is the examiner who takes decisions on any supportive measures, based on what kind of certificate is issued, and in that case which measures are to be applied.
Suspicions of attempting to deceive in examinations (cheating) are reported to the Vice-Chancellor, in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance, and are examined by the University’s Disciplinary Board. If the Disciplinary Board considers the student to be guilty of a disciplinary offence, the Board will take a decision on disciplinary action, which will be a warning or suspension.
