Objectives
The purpose of the course is to develop the student´s personal ability to conduct an independent academic thesis
Learning outcomes
After completion of the course the students should be able to
- have the capacity to explain basic scientific methods and methodological concepts
- collect, evaluate, interpret and use information
- show ability to identify and formulate research problems
- show ability for effective written and oral communication
- show ability to conduct an independent academic thesis
- critically assess a scientific work
Course content
The course includes theoretical and practical sessions focusing on research methodology and scientific text production that will develop students' investigative skills and provide knowledge and skills for scientific work.
Tuition
The teaching of the course is conducted by lectures, seminars, tutorials and essay writing. Both individual and group examination may occur.
Specific requirements
30 credits in Business Administration whereof 22,5 credits should be finished when the course starts. In addition English course B/6.
TOEFL test result, minimum score 213(CBT), 550(PBT) or 79(iBT) or an IELTS test result with an overall band score of minimum 6,0 and no band score below 5,0. The English test is COMPULSORY for all applicants except citizens of Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, United Kingdom and USA.
Examination
Individual Assignment (INL1), 1.5 credits, mark Pass (G)
Thesis (UPS1), 5 hp, marks Pass (G) or Pass with distinction (VG)
Group assignment (GRU1), 1 credit, mark Pass (G)
A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding a disability has the opportunity to submit a request for supportive measures during written examinations or other forms of examination, in accordance with the Rules and Regulations for Examinations at First-cycle and Second-cycle Level at Mälardalen University (2020/1655). It is the examiner who takes decisions on any supportive measures, based on what kind of certificate is issued, and in that case which measures are to be applied.
Suspicions of attempting to deceive in examinations (cheating) are reported to the Vice-Chancellor, in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance, and are examined by the University’s Disciplinary Board. If the Disciplinary Board considers the student to be guilty of a disciplinary offence, the Board will take a decision on disciplinary action, which will be a warning or suspension.

The course is examined through the implementation of a submission or group projects and assessment of the independent paper
To pass with distinction, a Pass on the individual assignment and group task and a Pass with distinction for the thesis is required
The thesis that is defended in an official seminar. Students will perform a main opposition and side oppositions. The thesis is a group assignment.
