Objectives
The purpose of the course is to gain knowledge on how different subject areas can broaden the perspective on information design. A central aim of the course is to develop knowledge in methods and approaches to design new interfaces for information and experience.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course student should be able to:
1. use design methods to design new interfaces for information and experiences
2. develop a prototype in interdisciplinary teams
3. create a new interface for information and experience
4. describe and reflect on a design process and the interface for information and experience
5. motivate the scientific and ethical aspects of information design relevant to the project task
Course content
Through a practical interdisciplinary and subject-integrated design projects, with a focus on new interfaces for information and experience designing, apply methodologies in, and approaches to information design. The course will broaden the perspective of information design through documented reflection and practical design tasks.
Tuition
Lectures, design criticism seminars, projects, and an assignment.
Specific requirements
Completed courses of at least 120 credits in information design, innovation, product and process development, or computer science.
Examination
Project (PRO1), 4,5 credits, examines the learning objectives 1-3, marks Fail (U), Pass (G) or Pass with Distinction (VG)
Written assignment (INL1), 3 credits, examines the learning objectives 4 and 5, marks Fail (U), Pass (G) or Pass with Distinction (VG)
A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding a disability has the opportunity to submit a request for supportive measures during written examinations or other forms of examination, in accordance with the Rules and Regulations for Examinations at First-cycle and Second-cycle Level at Mälardalen University (2020/1655). It is the examiner who takes decisions on any supportive measures, based on what kind of certificate is issued, and in that case which measures are to be applied.
Suspicions of attempting to deceive in examinations (cheating) are reported to the Vice-Chancellor, in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance, and are examined by the University’s Disciplinary Board. If the Disciplinary Board considers the student to be guilty of a disciplinary offence, the Board will take a decision on disciplinary action, which will be a warning or suspension.
