Objectives
The aim of this course is to examine several central concepts including culture, business and management. The aim is also to examine the major theories of the concept of culture, and learn how to make an analysis of a company's culture by carrying out several case studies. Another purpose is to develop the student's personal skills in concerns to written presentations, critical and analytical thinking, information search and scrutinizing.
Learning outcomes
After completed course the student shall be able to
- understand concepts such as cultural diversity, business culture and cross-cultural management;
- demonstrate the ability to integrate knowledge and handle complexity when evaluating different alternatives concerning a company's culture in certain contexts by applying theories and models from the course literature;
- communicate and present, in writing, conclusions and underpinnings
- peer-review and scrutinize the work of fellow students
- show a high degree of self-directed and autonomous learning by taking an active part in different course activities.
Course content
The course will cover topics such as business culture, national culture and cultural management.
Tuition
Since the course is a distance learning course, the teaching will be in the form of online lectures, published on the course web platform BlackBoard. The students should carry out four (4) individual tasks for which they will have online tutorials and online discussions in different discussion groups. A written exam will end the course and the exam will be carried out online in the form of multiple choice questions with a few open ended questions.
Specific requirements
30 credits in Business Administration where at least 22.5 credits must be finished when the course starts and English equivalent to a TOEFL test result of at least 575 with TWE score 4.5 (PBT), 213 with Essay Rating 4 (CBT) or 90 with TWE score 20 (iBT) or an IELTS test score for academic purposes with an overall band score of 6.5 and no band score below 5.5.

A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding a disability has the opportunity to submit a request for supportive measures during written examinations or other forms of examination, in accordance with the Rules and Regulations for Examinations at First-cycle and Second-cycle Level at Mälardalen University (2020/1655). It is the examiner who takes decisions on any supportive measures, based on what kind of certificate is issued, and in that case which measures are to be applied.
Suspicions of attempting to deceive in examinations (cheating) are reported to the Vice-Chancellor, in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance, and are examined by the University’s Disciplinary Board. If the Disciplinary Board considers the student to be guilty of a disciplinary offence, the Board will take a decision on disciplinary action, which will be a warning or suspension.
