Objectives
The course intends to give the student basic knowledge of Swedish Business Law and how national law interacts with European Community law and International Conventions.
Learning outcomes
After the course the student shall be able to:
- Identify different major legal systems and the effect on a specific business deal
- Evaluate legal texts and be able to find relevant text to a specific legal question..
- Find legal text in EC Law that is relevant to a specific business transaction within EU.
- Basic knowledge in Swedish Business Law and Swedish Tax Law
- Basic knowledge in Intellectual Property Law, Competition Law and Public Procurement Law
Course content
The course starts with an introduction to different legal systems and basic introduction to European Community law. After the introduction we continue with Procedural Law, Criminal Law, Family Law and Contract Law. Followed by the law regarding Debtors and Creditors, Property Law and Tort Law. The Law of Business Organizations, Labor and Employment Law, Tax Law, IP Law, Competition Law and Public Procurement Law will also be covered in the course.
Tuition
The teaching consists of lectures and oral seminars. The lectures will give an overview over the subjects. The oral seminars will give students training in identifying and solving legal problems.

A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding a disability has the opportunity to submit a request for supportive measures during written examinations or other forms of examination, in accordance with the Rules and Regulations for Examinations at First-cycle and Second-cycle Level at Mälardalen University (2020/1655). It is the examiner who takes decisions on any supportive measures, based on what kind of certificate is issued, and in that case which measures are to be applied.
Suspicions of attempting to deceive in examinations (cheating) are reported to the Vice-Chancellor, in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance, and are examined by the University’s Disciplinary Board. If the Disciplinary Board considers the student to be guilty of a disciplinary offence, the Board will take a decision on disciplinary action, which will be a warning or suspension.
