Objectives
The aim of the course is to give knowledge of the demands and challenges that are imposed on competitive production and logistics in industrial production systems.
Learning outcomes
After completed the course, the student shall:
1. be able to describe the significant features of a competitive production system,
2, be able to describe the main principles of the Toyota production system,
3, be able to describe the more common tools and methods, associated with Toyota production system,
4. be able to state how effective maintenance contributes to the competitiveness of a production system,
5. be able to calculate the dependability and availability of simple technical systems,
6. be able to calculate and map the loss that limits the utilization of a production system and
7. be able to describe the possibilities, challenges and vulnerability of lean production.

The teaching will essentially include classroom lectures, and applied group work.
Specific requirements
Production and logistics 7,5 credits. Further requirements are Swedish B/Swedish 3 and English A/English 6. If the course is given in English, there is no requirement for Swedish 3.
Examination
Written assignment (INL1), 4,5 credits, (examines the learning outcomes 3 and 6), marks Fail (U) or Pass (G)
Examination (TEN1), Written examination, 3 credits, (examines the learning outcomes 1- 7), marks Fail (U), 3, 4 or 5
A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding a disability has the opportunity to submit a request for supportive measures during written examinations or other forms of examination, in accordance with the Rules and Regulations for Examinations at First-cycle and Second-cycle Level at Mälardalen University (2020/1655). It is the examiner who takes decisions on any supportive measures, based on what kind of certificate is issued, and in that case which measures are to be applied.
Suspicions of attempting to deceive in examinations (cheating) are reported to the Vice-Chancellor, in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance, and are examined by the University’s Disciplinary Board. If the Disciplinary Board considers the student to be guilty of a disciplinary offence, the Board will take a decision on disciplinary action, which will be a warning or suspension.
