Objectives
The course aims to give a deeper understanding and to prepare the student for research in the area of "Supply Chain Management" with focus on logistics and process development. The aim of the course is also to provide an opportunity for a deeper discussion of, and knowledge in, what "Supply Chain Management" comprises and means, and how the work is done.
Learning outcomes
After completed the course, the student shall:
1. be able to present knowledge and deeper understanding in the areas of supply chain management with focus on both logistics and production fields,
2. be able to write a scientific article showing her knowledge and deeper understanding of concepts, methodologies and tools for research and/or development in the area of production and logistics,
3. be able to present her insight about the possibilities and limitations of modern logistics systems, their role in society and people´s responsibility for how this is used and
4. be able to present her understanding of the environmental and business aspects of transports.
Course content
Supply Chain Management, what it comprises, its methods and tools.
Logistics development, cooperation and collaboration between enterprises, buy/ produce issues and the connection between the refining chain and the product development work.
Methods for, and the work to, produce a scientific paper including scientific work and search of literature.
The environmental and business aspects of transports will be discussed.
Tuition
The teaching consists of lectures, tutorials, seminars and guest lectures and/or field trips.
The course requires continuous and active participation both during and alongside the scheduled lectures. Studies are conducted both in groups and individually.
The course participants should on own initiative search, read and review chosen parts of literature covering the subject. The students plan and carry out a literature search and literature review of scientific articles related to the themes of "Supply Chain Management", its concepts, methods and tools. For the scientific paper empirical studies may with benefit be conducted.
The assignments are presented at seminars.
Specific requirements
22.5 credits from completed courses within production and logistics on advanced level of which a minimum of 7.5 credits within production and logistics planning. In addition Swedish course B/Swedish course 3 and English course A/English course 6 are required. For courses given entirely in English exemption is made from the requirement in Swedish course B/Swedish course 3.

A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding a disability has the opportunity to submit a request for supportive measures during written examinations or other forms of examination, in accordance with the Rules and Regulations for Examinations at First-cycle and Second-cycle Level at Mälardalen University (2020/1655). It is the examiner who takes decisions on any supportive measures, based on what kind of certificate is issued, and in that case which measures are to be applied.
Suspicions of attempting to deceive in examinations (cheating) are reported to the Vice-Chancellor, in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance, and are examined by the University’s Disciplinary Board. If the Disciplinary Board considers the student to be guilty of a disciplinary offence, the Board will take a decision on disciplinary action, which will be a warning or suspension.
