Objectives
The purpose of the course is to, from an information design perspective, give basic knowledge and skills within rhetorical and narrative techniques. During the course a practical, theoretical and analytical framework will be established from which the students can derive rhetorical and narrative methods applicable to others as well as their own work.
Learning outcomes
After completied the course the student shall be able to:
- perform verbal presentations using narrative and rhetorical techniques,
- identify, analyze and reflect upon how narrative and rhetorical techniques are implemented within different types of information design areas,
- apply and integrate narrative and rhetorical techniques into their own work and
- apply and integrate narrative and rhetorical techniques in an information design context.
Course content
The course aims to provide basic knowledge and skills in rhetoric and narrative techniques. The course is based on theoretical reasoning and analysis as well as practical application ultimately is to provide insights into how different methods can be applied in information design.

A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding a disability has the opportunity to submit a request for supportive measures during written examinations or other forms of examination, in accordance with the Rules and Regulations for Examinations at First-cycle and Second-cycle Level at Mälardalen University (2020/1655). It is the examiner who takes decisions on any supportive measures, based on what kind of certificate is issued, and in that case which measures are to be applied.
Suspicions of attempting to deceive in examinations (cheating) are reported to the Vice-Chancellor, in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance, and are examined by the University’s Disciplinary Board. If the Disciplinary Board considers the student to be guilty of a disciplinary offence, the Board will take a decision on disciplinary action, which will be a warning or suspension.
