Objectives
The objective is to provide the student with relevant theories and practical skills in trendspotting.
Learning outcomes
After completed the course, the student shall be be able to:
1. apply a critical approach to the data produced,
2. reflect in a nuanced way about current and future trends and tendencies with an innovation perspective,
3. describe theories and methods applicable to trend spotting and trend analysis,
4. explain the role and function of trend trend watching in an organization and
5. work methodically according to the 7-step model or equivalent in a trend-spotting process.
Course content
Students will, through theoretical studies, report writing and exercises, understand the role of trendspotting in innovation processes. Source criticism and context awareness are emphasized. Relevant methods and models will be introduced in the process.
Tuition
The tuition is carried out through lectures, assignments and practical orientated exercises.

A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding a disability has the opportunity to submit a request for supportive measures during written examinations or other forms of examination, in accordance with the Rules and Regulations for Examinations at First-cycle and Second-cycle Level at Mälardalen University (2020/1655). It is the examiner who takes decisions on any supportive measures, based on what kind of certificate is issued, and in that case which measures are to be applied.
Suspicions of attempting to deceive in examinations (cheating) are reported to the Vice-Chancellor, in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance, and are examined by the University’s Disciplinary Board. If the Disciplinary Board considers the student to be guilty of a disciplinary offence, the Board will take a decision on disciplinary action, which will be a warning or suspension.
