Objectives
The objective of the course is to develop a commercially viable product. Ideas for projects will come from society (preferably local businesses) or from preliminary studies carried out in the course Product Development 2, KPP017.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, students are expected to be able to:
- document and argue for (in writing) the process and result of a product development task
- present and argue for (orally) the process and result of a product development task
- make use of a Gantt chart for the planning of time and activities in a project
- use tools and methods appropriate to a product development task
- use CAD tools for solid modeling and drawing documentation
Course content
- applied product development in a realistic project
- the use of methods for quality control and environmental safeguarding in product development
- the creation of project teams; group contract
- Gantt charts and project planning
- project documentation, project meetings, and discussions on construction
- the use of tools and methods for product development
- drawing documentation of components in existing commercial products
- oral and written documentation of the development of a commercial product
Tuition
Teaching and learning take place by means of the creation of project teams, as well as the supervised completion of a realistic product development project.
Specific requirements
At least 7,5 ECTS credits on advanced level in product development and Sv B/Sv 3 and En A/En 6.
Examination
Exercise (INL1), Individual, written hand-in assignment, 1.5 ECTS credits, marks 3, 4 or 5.
Project (PRO1), Oral and written presentation, in groups, of project assignment, 6 ECTS credits, marks 3, 4 or 5.
The final grade on the course depends on the weighted grades for the different parts of the course.
A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding a disability has the opportunity to submit a request for supportive measures during written examinations or other forms of examination, in accordance with the Rules and Regulations for Examinations at First-cycle and Second-cycle Level at Mälardalen University (2020/1655). It is the examiner who takes decisions on any supportive measures, based on what kind of certificate is issued, and in that case which measures are to be applied.
Suspicions of attempting to deceive in examinations (cheating) are reported to the Vice-Chancellor, in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance, and are examined by the University’s Disciplinary Board. If the Disciplinary Board considers the student to be guilty of a disciplinary offence, the Board will take a decision on disciplinary action, which will be a warning or suspension.
