Literature lists
Course literature is preliminary up to 8 weeks before course start. Course literature can be valid over several semesters.
Objectives
The purpose of this course is that in a design project put in to practice the student's skills in their area of competence with a focus on "design thinking" as well as provide a deeper understanding of design, scientific methods and its practice.
Learning outcomes
Knowledge and understanding:
Demonstrate an understanding for how design research methodology is practically applicable and explain how their skills are used in a design project.
Skills and Abilities:
Practically apply their knowledge in a design project and independently argue orally and in writing for the chosen design process and choices of methods and implementation.
Attitudes and Values:
Demonstrate an ability to identify the need for further knowledge in the field and to take responsibility for developing their own knowledge. Demonstrate the ability to take responsibility and contribute to the developmental work in multidisciplinary teams.
Course content
The course consists of three parts:
- Project work individually and in groups, with supervision
- Seminars with discussions related to literature and to the respective projects
- An individual work where the project is presented in a scientific report
Tuition
Teaching method used will be seminars, individual work, lectures and projects.
Specific requirements
Bachelor in science within Information design, Innovation science and management or Product and process development. Also required are upper-secondary English course A and upper-secondary advanced-level Swedish course B.

Exercise (INL1), 2.5 credits, marks Pass (G)

A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding a disability has the opportunity to submit a request for supportive measures during written examinations or other forms of examination, in accordance with the Rules and Regulations for Examinations at First-cycle and Second-cycle Level at Mälardalen University (2020/1655). It is the examiner who takes decisions on any supportive measures, based on what kind of certificate is issued, and in that case which measures are to be applied.
Suspicions of attempting to deceive in examinations (cheating) are reported to the Vice-Chancellor, in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance, and are examined by the University’s Disciplinary Board. If the Disciplinary Board considers the student to be guilty of a disciplinary offence, the Board will take a decision on disciplinary action, which will be a warning or suspension.
