Objectives
The purpose of the course is to become acquainted with business communication and to practise the ability to read and write texts in a professional context.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this course the student should be able to:
- assimilate, write, edit and adapt texts in a professional context,
- make use of the some of the communicative possibilities of the widened text concept,
- become orientated to corporate ethical aspects of communication,
- account for, and in the production of texts apply, theories of writing

- Text genres such as reports, minutes, internal company information and press releases
- Style
- Writing for the web, layout
- Corporate ethics in a communication perspective
- The widened text concept
- Writing and reading theory
Tuition
The course is taught by means of lectures, group work, exercises and seminars. Mandatory attendance.
Specific requirements
15 credits in one of the subjects Swedish or Communication Studies or the equivalent.
Examination
Written assignments (INL1), 4.5 credits, marks Pass (G) or Pass with distinction (VG)
Active participation (NÄR1), 1 credits, marks Pass (G)
Seminar assignments (SEM1), 2 credits, marks Pass (G) or Pass with distinction (VG)
In order to earn a VG on the course a student must earn a VG on at least 6.5 credits.
In order to obtain a Pass mark the examination tasks must demonstrate a competent command of the language.
A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding a disability has the opportunity to submit a request for supportive measures during written examinations or other forms of examination, in accordance with the Rules and Regulations for Examinations at First-cycle and Second-cycle Level at Mälardalen University (2020/1655). It is the examiner who takes decisions on any supportive measures, based on what kind of certificate is issued, and in that case which measures are to be applied.
Suspicions of attempting to deceive in examinations (cheating) are reported to the Vice-Chancellor, in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance, and are examined by the University’s Disciplinary Board. If the Disciplinary Board considers the student to be guilty of a disciplinary offence, the Board will take a decision on disciplinary action, which will be a warning or suspension.
