Literature lists
Course literature is preliminary up to 8 weeks before course start. Course literature can be valid over several semesters.
Objectives
The course shall:
- Give deeper knowledge in a mathematical subject
- Develop the ability to formulate a problem and to work independently
- Develop the ability to present knowledge and the results obtained in speech and writing.
Course content
The larger part of this course is an independent study which shall be done individually or in groups. A supervisor is appointed to every student or group. The work shall be described in a written work plan which shall be approved by the supervisor who is also course examiner. The work shall be presented both in a written report and orally at a seminar, which shall be announced at least fourteen days in advance. In addition to the independent work the course may contain literature searches, literature studies and seminars. The extent of such work shall be presented in the work plan.
Specific requirements
Non-overlapping courses in Mathematics/Applied Mathematics with a total sum of at least 90 credits, excluding previous degree projects, of which at least 30 credits must relate to courses on the advanced level.
Examination
Written essay (PRO1), 30 credits, marks Pass (G) or Pass with distinction (VG)
A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding a disability has the opportunity to submit a request for supportive measures during written examinations or other forms of examination, in accordance with the Rules and Regulations for Examinations at First-cycle and Second-cycle Level at Mälardalen University (2020/1655). It is the examiner who takes decisions on any supportive measures, based on what kind of certificate is issued, and in that case which measures are to be applied.
Suspicions of attempting to deceive in examinations (cheating) are reported to the Vice-Chancellor, in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance, and are examined by the University’s Disciplinary Board. If the Disciplinary Board considers the student to be guilty of a disciplinary offence, the Board will take a decision on disciplinary action, which will be a warning or suspension.
