Objectives
The purpose of this course is that students should gain an understanding of the external and internal information flow, and how it is handled, in larger companies, organizations and municipalities.
Learning outcomes
After the course, the student should be able to:
- describe the functions and roles in the information and communications sector and its relation to Information Design
- overall be able to explain the policy documents, laws and regulations that are relevant for information and communication work in larger organizations
- be able to analyze the information and the communication process with emphasis on dialogue, interaction and feedback
- evaluate major communication campaigns and its impact
Course content
• Professional roles in the information and communications field with focus on textual information.
• Laws, regulations and policy documents relevant to information and communication work in larger companies, organizations and municipalities.
• Evaluation methods for information.
• Analysis of communicative arenas for dialogue and interaction.
• The organizations ability to handle the target group / beneficiaries reactions and feedback.
• Alternative design to an analyzed campaign.
Tuition
Teaching is conducted through lectures, individual work and group work, seminars and presentations. There is a major focus that reports, presentations and design maintains a high standard. High standard on reports, presentations och design is a major focus during the course.
Examination
Group assignment (GRU1), 5,5 ECTS credits, marks Pass (G) or Pass with distinction (VG).
Exercise (INL1), 2,2 ECTS credits, marks Pass (G) or Pass with distinction (VG).
A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding a disability has the opportunity to submit a request for supportive measures during written examinations or other forms of examination, in accordance with the Rules and Regulations for Examinations at First-cycle and Second-cycle Level at Mälardalen University (2020/1655). It is the examiner who takes decisions on any supportive measures, based on what kind of certificate is issued, and in that case which measures are to be applied.
Suspicions of attempting to deceive in examinations (cheating) are reported to the Vice-Chancellor, in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance, and are examined by the University’s Disciplinary Board. If the Disciplinary Board considers the student to be guilty of a disciplinary offence, the Board will take a decision on disciplinary action, which will be a warning or suspension.
