Objectives
The purpose of this course is to develop proficiency in the use of written and spoken English in a technical context and to develop the ability to assimilate English texts dealing with technical subjects
Learning outcomes
Upon the completion of this course the student should be able to:
- apply technical vocabulary in oral and written work in English
- apply various oral presentation techniques in a technical context in English
- demonstrate different types of English technical writing
- demonstrate understanding of key English grammatical constructions in a technical context

Tuition
The course is taught by means of lectures, discussions, group exercises, homework assignments and tasks performed by students in class.

Written and spoken assignments (INL1), 5 credits, marks Pass (G) or Pass with distinction (VG)
Preparation for and active participation in campus meetings (SEM1), 2.5 credits, marks Pass (G) or Pass with distinction (VG)
In order to earn a grade of VG for the course, the student must have earned a grade of VG för INL1.
A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding a disability has the opportunity to submit a request for supportive measures during written examinations or other forms of examination, in accordance with the Rules and Regulations for Examinations at First-cycle and Second-cycle Level at Mälardalen University (2020/1655). It is the examiner who takes decisions on any supportive measures, based on what kind of certificate is issued, and in that case which measures are to be applied.
Suspicions of attempting to deceive in examinations (cheating) are reported to the Vice-Chancellor, in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance, and are examined by the University’s Disciplinary Board. If the Disciplinary Board considers the student to be guilty of a disciplinary offence, the Board will take a decision on disciplinary action, which will be a warning or suspension.
