Learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student is expected to be able to
- perform computations using different types of numbers.
- present the properties and graphs of the more common elementary functions, and solve equations and simplify expressions containing such functions.
- express themselves in a mathematically correct way and critically examine mathematical texts.
Course content
Different types of numbers, approximations, fractions, powers, expressions of radicals and logarithms, measurement of angles, areas of circle sectors. Algebraic expressions, linear equations, second order equations and completing the square, root equations, Pythagoras´ theorem and the distance formula, factorization. Coordinate systems and graphs of relations, equation of a straight line, polynomial functions, exponential functions, logarithmic functions and trigonometric functions.
