Objectives
The objective of the course is to familiarize students with the use of modern computer aids, to develop their skills in the interpretation and production of technical drawings according to international standards, and to familiarize them with modern CAD software
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, students are expected to:
- understand how the computer environment works at the University and the School
- be able to use word processing and conversion software
- be able to apply rules and standards for the production of technical drawings
- be able to carry out measurements related to manufacturing
- be able to make use of a modern CAD program to create solid models, simple compilations and drawings
Course content
- an introduction to the computer environment at the University and the School that also covers word processing and conversion software
- the production of technical drawings, and what rules and standards need to be followed
- measuring techniques, tolerance, and fitting
- a CAD program for the creation of solid models as well as compilations and drawings
Tuition
Lectures and classroom exercises; short introductions in the computer room followed by individual computer exercises under supervision.

A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding a disability has the opportunity to submit a request for supportive measures during written examinations or other forms of examination, in accordance with the Rules and Regulations for Examinations at First-cycle and Second-cycle Level at Mälardalen University (2020/1655). It is the examiner who takes decisions on any supportive measures, based on what kind of certificate is issued, and in that case which measures are to be applied.
Suspicions of attempting to deceive in examinations (cheating) are reported to the Vice-Chancellor, in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance, and are examined by the University’s Disciplinary Board. If the Disciplinary Board considers the student to be guilty of a disciplinary offence, the Board will take a decision on disciplinary action, which will be a warning or suspension.
