Objectives
The course is intended for future teachers of mathematics in secondary schools and aims to give the required skill and knowledge in the different areas of mathematics teaching that a teacher has to undertake.
Course content
Classroom practice and the theory of mathematics education, including orientation in the research of mathematics education, literature and journals. Pupils with special needs in mathematics. Design of lessons and work material, tests and other written and oral accounts in mathematics. Supervised practise in teaching. Planning and evaluation of mathematics teaching, marking and information to pupils and their parents/guardians of pupils´ development. Communication of mathematics, oral, written and graphic. Mathematics in popular scientific literature. Experimental investigation work. Work in groups, practical work and other educational tools in teaching. Use of computers and software.
Tuition
Lectures, seminars and field studies. Continuos practise in teaching for at least 5 weeks. The teaching requires the student´s active participation.
Specific requirements
Student at teacher education in mathematics at MDH and knowledge of mathematics equivalent to at least 22,5 credits.
Examination
Exercise (INL1), 7.5 credits, marks Pass (G) or Pass with distinction (VG)
Training (PRA2), 7.5 credits, marks Pass (G) or Pass with distinction (VG)
A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding a disability has the opportunity to submit a request for supportive measures during written examinations or other forms of examination, in accordance with the Rules and Regulations for Examinations at First-cycle and Second-cycle Level at Mälardalen University (2020/1655). It is the examiner who takes decisions on any supportive measures, based on what kind of certificate is issued, and in that case which measures are to be applied.
Suspicions of attempting to deceive in examinations (cheating) are reported to the Vice-Chancellor, in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance, and are examined by the University’s Disciplinary Board. If the Disciplinary Board considers the student to be guilty of a disciplinary offence, the Board will take a decision on disciplinary action, which will be a warning or suspension.
