Literature lists
Course literature is preliminary up to 8 weeks before course start. Course literature can be valid over several semesters.
Objectives
The purpose of this course is for students to become acquainted with, to analyse and to be able to use in their teaching of the language, children's verse and nursery rhymes and modern and classic works of English fiction for children.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this course the students should be able to:
- analyse and discuss character, themes, genre and literary figures
- use the texts they have read, both prose and verse, in their teaching of the language to non-native learners
- devise strategies, more generally, for teaching the language through literature
Course content
English-language classic and modern children's prose fiction, nursery rhymes and other verse for children.
Tuition
The course is taught by means of seminars, discussions, group work, homework assignments and tasks performed by students in class.
Specific requirements
Teacher training programme, Language and language development, part 1, 22,5 credits, or the equivalent.
Examination
Written assignment (INL1), 2 credits, marks Pass (G) or Pass with distinction (VG)
Preparation for and active particip. in scheduled activities (SEM1), 4 credits, marks Pass (G) or Pass with distinction (VG)
A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding a disability has the opportunity to submit a request for supportive measures during written examinations or other forms of examination, in accordance with the Rules and Regulations for Examinations at First-cycle and Second-cycle Level at Mälardalen University (2020/1655). It is the examiner who takes decisions on any supportive measures, based on what kind of certificate is issued, and in that case which measures are to be applied.
Suspicions of attempting to deceive in examinations (cheating) are reported to the Vice-Chancellor, in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance, and are examined by the University’s Disciplinary Board. If the Disciplinary Board considers the student to be guilty of a disciplinary offence, the Board will take a decision on disciplinary action, which will be a warning or suspension.
