Objectives

Enable the students individually or in groups of two to independently apply their acquired knowledge in seeking and solving problems in Industrial Automation within the subject area of product and process development.

Learning outcomes

The student must;

- Demonstrate your ability of being able to conduct (carry on) research in the area of Industrial Automation.
- Specify, define, and describe a practical/theoretical research problem topic.
- Link the research topic to the relevant theory and solution methods.
- Obtain the desired results from your study.
- Draw conclusions and recommendations based on the analysis of your results.
- Present your written thesis work and defend it.

Course content

The problem can be derived from ongoing research projects within the university or the surrounding community.
The problem should be linked to the course or subject area studied on the advanced-level focusing on Industrial Automation applications within the product and process development area.

Tuition

Tutorials from appointed tutor or examiner, driven periodically by the student.

Specific requirements

To start thesis work at least 135 ECTS must be fully examined including at least 15 ECTS on advanced level whereof 7,5 ECTS corresponding to the scope of the thesis work.

Examination

Project (PRO1), 15 credits, marks Pass (G)

A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding a disability has the opportunity to submit a request for supportive measures during written examinations or other forms of examination, in accordance with the Rules and Regulations for Examinations at First-cycle and Second-cycle Level at Mälardalen University (2020/1655). It is the examiner who takes decisions on any supportive measures, based on what kind of certificate is issued, and in that case which measures are to be applied.

Suspicions of attempting to deceive in examinations (cheating) are reported to the Vice-Chancellor, in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance, and are examined by the University’s Disciplinary Board. If the Disciplinary Board considers the student to be guilty of a disciplinary offence, the Board will take a decision on disciplinary action, which will be a warning or suspension.
