Objectives
This course gives advanced knowledge on modern aviation systems maintenance. Emphasis is put on how international rules and regulations in aviation govern maintenance organisation and its tasks in order to make aviation reliable and on how they influence the economy of aviation. The course also gives knowledge on how to organise and manage maintenance.
Learning outcomes
The student should after a completed course be able to:
- From the aspect of the given aviation regulations, show extensive knowledge concerning responsibility and undertaking that an airlines technical organization and maintenance organization have, what functions that is included in the organization and their prerequisites for an authority approval.
- Show good knowledge concerning the maintenance programs development process; from MSG-3 via manuals, authority approval, planning etc. to the carrying out of the maintenance
- Show good knowledge concerning the operators reliability program, its prerequisites and how reliability programs develop in large and small airlines
- With the starting point from a maintenance program create a maintenance plan and thereby show knowledge about principles for maintenance planning and preparation processes
- Describe how external demands and recommendations, e.g. authority directives, service bulletins etc. is handled in an airline and how these can result in internal engineering requirements such as modifying requirements, technical directives etc.
- Show how aircraft material is handled and how spare part material is optimized
- Together with others in a group project, carry out generic and real quality revisions within aircraft maintenance
- Give an overview over new methods under development in aircraft maintenance, as well as relating the course content to sustainable development and environmental issues

A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding a disability has the opportunity to submit a request for supportive measures during written examinations or other forms of examination, in accordance with the Rules and Regulations for Examinations at First-cycle and Second-cycle Level at Mälardalen University (2020/1655). It is the examiner who takes decisions on any supportive measures, based on what kind of certificate is issued, and in that case which measures are to be applied.
Suspicions of attempting to deceive in examinations (cheating) are reported to the Vice-Chancellor, in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance, and are examined by the University’s Disciplinary Board. If the Disciplinary Board considers the student to be guilty of a disciplinary offence, the Board will take a decision on disciplinary action, which will be a warning or suspension.
