Objectives
Individually or in groups, students are to apply their acquired knowledge of product and process development and search for new knowledge in order to independently solve a problem.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, students are expected to be able to do the following (in a scientific manner and according to good engineering practice):
- take active part in a commercial or research-oriented project
- analyze and apply processes and tools for product and process development in order to complete a project assignment
- draw conclusions and offer recommendations for further work on the basis of the results obtained
- document and argue for the process and result (in writing)
- present and argue for the result (orally)
Course content
The problem that is to function as the basis for the project is to be found within an ongoing project at the Centrum för produktrealisering.
Tuition
Supervision by an assigned supervisor at the university and/or by representatives of an external client; lectures, individual studies of sources, and seminars. Students must make sure that regular contact is maintained between students and supervisors.
Examination
Exercise (INL1), Individual assignment., 1.5 credits, marks Pass (G)
Project (PRO1), group work. The project is to be presented in the form of a technical report per group. There also has to be an oral presentation at a seminar at the university plus, possibly, another presentation for the client. The actual examination, i.e. the oral presentation, is to take place on certain scheduled days., 6 credits, marks Pass (G)
A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding a disability has the opportunity to submit a request for supportive measures during written examinations or other forms of examination, in accordance with the Rules and Regulations for Examinations at First-cycle and Second-cycle Level at Mälardalen University (2020/1655). It is the examiner who takes decisions on any supportive measures, based on what kind of certificate is issued, and in that case which measures are to be applied.
Suspicions of attempting to deceive in examinations (cheating) are reported to the Vice-Chancellor, in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance, and are examined by the University’s Disciplinary Board. If the Disciplinary Board considers the student to be guilty of a disciplinary offence, the Board will take a decision on disciplinary action, which will be a warning or suspension.
