Objectives
The course aims to give a deeper understanding and to prepare the student for research in the area of "Supply Chain Management" with focus on logistics and process development. The aim of the course is also to give a deeper discussion and knowledge of "Supply Chain Management" what it comprises and means and how the work is done.
Learning outcomes
The student must be able to present:
- knowledge and deeper understanding in the areas of supply chain management with focus both in logistics and production fields
- a scientific article showing her knowledge and deeper understanding of concepts, methodologies and tools for research and/or development in the area of production and logistics
- her insight about the possibilities and limitations of modern logistics systems, their roll in society and people´s responsibility for how this is used.
- her understanding of the environmental and business aspects of transports
Course content
Supply Chain Management, what it comprises, its methods and tools.
Logistics development, cooperation and collaboration between enterprises, buy/ produce issues and the connection between the refining chain and the product development work.
Methods for, and the work to, produce a scientific paper including scientific work and search of literature.
The environmental and business aspects of transports will be discussed.
Tuition
The teaching will essentially include lectures, seminars with account of literature study results, and presentation of a written article.
The course presuppose continuous participation, the students own studies and initiative and that all parts of the course are fulfilled within the time schedule of the course.
The participators are to read and review chosen parts of literature covering the subject. They will also make a literature study of scientific articles about "Supply Chain Management" what it comprises, its methods and tools. The work will be done in groups of 2-3 persons and will result in a PM which is presented to the other participants at a literature seminar. Further theoretical and/or empirical individual studies will result in an individual scientific article that each student will present in a final seminar.
Specific requirements
At least 22,5 credits on advanced level in product and process development and a Bachelor's degree in the fields of technology from an institution of higher education of three years or more, equivalent to at least 180 credits with at least 22,5 credits in mathematics/applied mathematics or a Bachelor's degree in the fields of economics, business or science from an institution of higher education of three years or more, equivalent to at least 180 credits with at least 22,5 credits in mathematics/applied mathematics with one year of working experience in the industry. In addition Swedish course B/Swedish course 2 and English course A/English course 5 are required. For courses given entirely in English exemption is made from the requirement in Swedish course B/Swedish course 2.
Examination
Exercise (INL1), group PM - literature studie, 3 credits, marks Pass (G)
Exercise (INL2), individual scientific paper
Mark 5 is given if the individual students paper is in English and can get published, mark 4 is given if the individual paper builds on both theoretical and empirical results, mark 3 is given for a solely theoretical , 3 credits, marks 3, 4 or 5
Seminar (SEM1), group seminar, 1,5 credits, marks Pass (G)
A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding a disability has the opportunity to submit a request for supportive measures during written examinations or other forms of examination, in accordance with the Rules and Regulations for Examinations at First-cycle and Second-cycle Level at Mälardalen University (2020/1655). It is the examiner who takes decisions on any supportive measures, based on what kind of certificate is issued, and in that case which measures are to be applied.
Suspicions of attempting to deceive in examinations (cheating) are reported to the Vice-Chancellor, in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance, and are examined by the University’s Disciplinary Board. If the Disciplinary Board considers the student to be guilty of a disciplinary offence, the Board will take a decision on disciplinary action, which will be a warning or suspension.
