Literature lists
Course literature is preliminary up to 8 weeks before course start. Course literature can be valid over several semesters.
Objectives
The aim of the course is to broaden the perspectives on information design, by working subject integrated, multi disciplinary and system oriented. Important is to develop knowledge on methods and ways to secure and test the quality of designed information in different forms.
Learning outcomes
Account for the understanding of the concept intelligibility in information of different forms and in different contexts. Examine different aspects of intelligibility in designed information.
Problematize the meaning of comprehensible information both in speech and in writing. Keep up a constructive dialogue on designed information also with support of knowledge from other fields. Analyze different aspects of intelligibility connected to information design. Estimate information in different forms when it comes to intelligibility.
Show the ability to contribute to development in multi disciplinary groups.
Show the ability to identify the need of knowledge within the specific area, and to acquire this knowledge.
Course content
The course consists of two parts:
- In the first part of the course produces examples of information designed in different forms and for different purposes but with a focus on intelligibility
- In the other part of the course these examples are examined from different perspectives. The work is performed individually and in groups, and documented in written.
Tuition
The forms for education will mainly be seminars, fieldwork and lectures. The students work both in groups and individually.

Examination
Exercise (INL1), 4.5 credits, marks Pass (G)
Seminar (SEM1), 3 credits, marks Pass (G)
A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding a disability has the opportunity to submit a request for supportive measures during written examinations or other forms of examination, in accordance with the Rules and Regulations for Examinations at First-cycle and Second-cycle Level at Mälardalen University (2020/1655). It is the examiner who takes decisions on any supportive measures, based on what kind of certificate is issued, and in that case which measures are to be applied.
Suspicions of attempting to deceive in examinations (cheating) are reported to the Vice-Chancellor, in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance, and are examined by the University’s Disciplinary Board. If the Disciplinary Board considers the student to be guilty of a disciplinary offence, the Board will take a decision on disciplinary action, which will be a warning or suspension.
