Objectives
The course introduces the student to the development of web applications for different applications and platforms. The course aims to provide basic theoretical and practical knowledge of web applications and developing them in a robust, efficient and standardized manner. The course is preparatory to professional work with web development.
Learning outcomes
After completing this course the student will be able to:
- explain the software stack for web applications
- program web applications using techniques such as ASP.NET
- use HTML, style sheets, and JavaScript
- develop for different types of browsers and platforms, such as desktop or mobile
- explain how the browser, web server and database server is constructed
- use databases in development of web applications
- develop secure web application
- develop asynchronous web applications using AJAX
Course content
The software stack for web applications (server, database, network, browser).
Programming of web applications on different platforms, HTML, style sheets, JavaScript, HTML preprocessing and AJAX.
Tuition
Lectures, laborations, and projects.
Specific requirements
Programming in C# 7,5 ECTS credits, Data structures, algorithms and program development 7,5 ECTS credits, Interaction Design 7,5 ECTS credits and Databases 7,5 ECTS credits or corresponding.
Examination
Exercise, laboratory work (LAB1), 2.5 credits, marks Pass (G)
Project (PRO1), 5 credits, marks 3, 4 or 5
A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding a disability has the opportunity to submit a request for supportive measures during written examinations or other forms of examination, in accordance with the Rules and Regulations for Examinations at First-cycle and Second-cycle Level at Mälardalen University (2020/1655). It is the examiner who takes decisions on any supportive measures, based on what kind of certificate is issued, and in that case which measures are to be applied.
Suspicions of attempting to deceive in examinations (cheating) are reported to the Vice-Chancellor, in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance, and are examined by the University’s Disciplinary Board. If the Disciplinary Board considers the student to be guilty of a disciplinary offence, the Board will take a decision on disciplinary action, which will be a warning or suspension.
