Objectives
The purpose of this course is that the students will get a basic knowledge in the game development process and how different genres affect the design of a computer game. Students will also gain a basic ability to manage the complex problem of developing a computer game. This is exemplified by using the XNA technique in development projects.
Learning outcomes
After completion of the course the student should be able to:
- discuss, analyse and use the process of game development
- design, construct and implement video games
- master the framework XNA for game development
Course content
The development process of video games, from both a design perspective but foremost from a construction perspective. Introduction to game development based on the XNA framework. A development project utilising XNA. Demonstration and presentation of the project.

Lectures, seminars, guest lectures, individual task, and project.
Specific requirements
Programming in C# 7,5 ECTS credits, Interaction Design in .NET 7,5 ECTS credits, Data Structures, Algorithms and Program Development 7,5 ECTS credits and C# and Object-Oriented Programming 7,5 ECTS credits or corresponding.

A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding a disability has the opportunity to submit a request for supportive measures during written examinations or other forms of examination, in accordance with the Rules and Regulations for Examinations at First-cycle and Second-cycle Level at Mälardalen University (2020/1655). It is the examiner who takes decisions on any supportive measures, based on what kind of certificate is issued, and in that case which measures are to be applied.
Suspicions of attempting to deceive in examinations (cheating) are reported to the Vice-Chancellor, in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance, and are examined by the University’s Disciplinary Board. If the Disciplinary Board considers the student to be guilty of a disciplinary offence, the Board will take a decision on disciplinary action, which will be a warning or suspension.
